ILTexas is a Free Public Charter School. There is no charge to attend ILTexas. 

The application deadline for the upcoming school year's lottery is February 29th, 2024. Applications received after this date will be placed on the waitlist in the order in which they are received.

Students’ names not drawn for enrollment during the admissions lottery will be placed on the waitlist for the applicable grade. As places become available, parents will be contacted by email to finalize enrollment.

Scholars must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the year they are applying to.

To qualify for admission into ILTexas, a free public open-enrollment charter school, a prospective student must meet the following requirements:

• Must be 5 years of age on or before September 1.

The mission of ILTexas is to prepare students for exceptional leadership roles in the international community by emphasizing servant leadership, mastering the English, Spanish, and Chinese languages, and strengthening the mind, body and character. ​

ILTexas teaches its students Chinese because of the following reasons:

• China has the second-largest economy in the world and is a strategic competitor to the United States​.

• Mandarin Chinese is considered a National Security Language by the U.S. Department of Defense.​

• ILTexas receives funding from the federal grants like the World Language Advancement & Readiness. Program (WLARP), and the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)​.

• ILTexas students are filling a diplomatic gap​.

ILTexas follows the state standards Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and requires eight core curriculum areas, four more than a traditional public school:  (1) Math, (2) Science, (3) Reading Language Arts/English, (4) Social Studies, (5) Mandarin Chinese, (6) Spanish, and (7) Physical Fitness, and Leadership (8).

Currently, ILTexas offers the following sports:

• Soccer

As a district, our teams compete in the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL).

At ILTexas students have to wear the ILTexas uniform every day (unless there is an exemption at the campus for a special event). Any additions or modifications to the uniform due to medical, religious or other reasons must be approved by the campus principal.

School uniforms help to direct a student’s focus where it belongs. Your child’s true personality is most fully nurtured and refined when their school environment puts the focus on who they are, not on what they wear. Any parent who has experienced the change that occurs after the transition from street clothes to school uniforms will agree.

Charter schools are publicly funded, tuition-free educational institutions governed by boards. These entities operate autonomously from the usual state school system, upholding a commitment to high-quality education with increased accountability for academic outcomes. Charter schools employ a distinctive focus on student achievement, providing enriched resources to facilitate scholars' academic excellence and future success. Each charter school maintains a distinct focus, ranging from languages and leadership to arts, sciences, and technology. 

Adhering to an open-enrollment approach, charter schools have no admission prerequisites or entrance exams. When applications outnumber seats available, they initiate a 'blind' lottery system to assure equitable admission chances. Preferences may be extended to returning students, those with siblings already in the school, and certain at-risk groups.

Unlike the standard curriculum in traditional public schools, charter schools pioneer a tailored approach to education, nurturing each student's unique needs and talents. With more intimate class sizes, charter schools excel in encouraging personal growth and achieving exceptional student performance by maintaining rigorous standards. Charter schools refrain from categorizing students based on their abilities or test scores, instead viewing each student as a future leader in the making.

While private schools remain inaccessible due to their high tuition fees, charter schools offer families a high-quality K-12 education at no cost. In contrast to private schools' exhaustive applications and selective admissions, charter schools adopt an open-enrollment policy. They do not judge students on their academic achievements, ethnicity, gender, or religion. Instead, they are committed to empowering students with the outstanding education they deserve.

Charter schools, similar to Independent School Districts (ISDs), are public schools. Public Charter schools as ISDs adhere to the state-mandated standards known as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

School hours at ILTexas K-8 campuses run from 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM for students in 4th-8th grades and from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM for students in K-3rd grades.

* Exception for ILTexas Garland K-8.

* Driveline begins 3:45pm and siblings are dismissed together.

Every year, all students in grades K-12 put their lessons into action in a student-led service-learning project named after our motto, “Others Before Self.” With minimal help from teachers, the students are responsible for the entire process—from brainstorming, research, and choosing an idea to planning, organizing, and executing the service project that gives back to their community.

The goal of Others Before Self is to provide opportunities for our students to develop leadership skills of research, organization, advocacy, communication, public speaking, teamwork, planning, execution, and reflective evaluation to become conscious, thoughtful, and effective leaders in their community and world.

At ILTexas, we believe that education needs to be reinforced with experience. 

This is why, every year, we work to ensure students have the opportunity to get out of the classroom, and into the world by participating trips that bring the lessons from their history books alive.

The expectation for all ILTexas students is that they will attend a four-year University, College, or Military Academy of their choice​.

With each student that takes an AP class, scores well on the SAT, or gets into a top-tier university, the bar is raised for everyone, promoting a college-going culture.

ILTexas partners with  Academic Success Program (ASP Dallas). ASP works with all key players - including students, parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, and college admissions officers to gain higher education access for our students, with a focus on those who are first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented minorities.

We work individually with students to identify the best fit as they continue on their path to higher education -- be that an Ivy League school, a public state university, or a local community college. This holistic approach delivers results.
