DoDEA Grants

DoDEA               Chinese Advanced Language Project

ILTexas has been awarded two 5-year grants in 2022 and 2023 by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) for the Chinese Advanced Language (CAL) project.

The CAL project is expected to increase the language proficiency level of all ILTexas students, with a focus on military-connected and JROTC students, through:
  • Providing ILTexas Chinese teachers with advanced professional development (PD), including training and instructions from Advanced Chinese Instructional Coaches
  • Providing high school students access to a free Chinese language and culture immersion summer camp
  • Hiring additional Chinese language teachers at K-5 level

Military Connected Academic Support

The latest student enrollment information for school year 2023-2024 shows that among the 3692 students enrolled in the targeted high schools, 4.7% are military-connected and 26.2% enrolled in Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC). The CAL project will be making a direct impact on over 4000 high school students across the district. Please see the figure on the right.
