Comprehensive School Counseling Program

The ILTexas Counseling Program is committed to strengthening the mind, body, and character of every student by providing comprehensive support that fosters academic success, emotional well-being, and personal growth. By serving all students from PK–12, the program delivers developmentally appropriate services, removes barriers to learning, and provides comprehensive support that empowers students to explore new possibilities on their path toward graduation, college, and career readiness.

Human Trafficking Awareness & Reporting

Human trafficking is a serious crime that involves exploiting individuals through coercion, manipulation, or force for labor, services, or commercial sexual activity. Although it is a global issue, it is also a critical concern in Texas. Students of all ages can be vulnerable to the deceptive and exploitative tactics used by traffickers. Law enforcement has confirmed that trafficking can occur in connection with school environments—including on campus, at school-related events, and in some cases involving peers.

Traffickers use powerful and harmful methods to maintain control. Victims may experience threats, intimidation, physical or emotional abuse, sexual exploitation, or the withholding of basic needs. Many children who are being trafficked continue attending school, meaning ILTexas staff members may be among the few consistent adults who see them regularly.

All individuals are legally mandated to report suspected abuse or neglect. At ILTexas, educators and school professionals—including teachers, administrators, nurses, and counselors—are required to report any suspicion of abuse, neglect, or trafficking within 24 hours. If a student discloses being trafficked or shares information indicating another student may be involved, staff must follow the ILTexas Human Trafficking Response Protocol to ensure the student’s safety and to initiate appropriate next steps.

Substance Abuse & Prevention

Substance misuse occurs when an individual uses alcohol, prescription medications, or illegal substances in a way that negatively affects their physical health, emotional well-being, or relationships. These behaviors can contribute to serious health risks, declining academic performance, and conflict within families and peer groups. Experimentation may begin out of curiosity or pressure from others, but continued use can quickly develop into a harmful pattern that becomes difficult to manage. Early awareness and informed decision-making are essential in helping students avoid these dangers.

Prevention at ILTexas begins with education, open communication, and strong support systems. When students understand the impact that drugs and alcohol can have on their bodies, minds, and future goals, they are better equipped to make safe and responsible choices. Families also play a vital role by discussing these issues openly, establishing clear expectations, and modeling healthy behaviors. ILTexas reinforces prevention through guidance lessons, counseling services, and programs that build skills such as problem-solving, managing stress, and resisting negative peer influence.

If a student is worried about their own substance use or is concerned about a friend, assistance is available. Speaking with a trusted adult—such as a school counselor, teacher, or parent—is an important and courageous first step. ILTexas is committed to creating a supportive environment that promotes wellness, accountability, and positive decision-making for all students.

Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Support

Student mental health and well-being are a priority at International Leadership of Texas. Suicide is a serious public health concern, particularly for young people, and awareness is an important step in prevention.

Some students may experience emotional distress that places them at risk. Knowing the warning signs and available supports can help families and schools respond early and with care.

Common Warning Signs May Include:

Expressing feelings of being a burden to others
Noticeable increases in anxiety, anger, or feelings of hopelessness
Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities they once enjoyed

Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect

You do not have to investigate or be certain that abuse or neglect has occurred — you only have to suspect it.

Texas law requires that any person who suspects a child has been abused or neglected must make a report immediately.
