First Day of School: Thursday, August 14

The first day of school at International Leadership of Texas (ILTexas) is just around the corner. Whether you’re a returning family or brand new to our district, a little preparation can make Thursday morning much smoother.

Here are five practical tips to help your student start the year confident, prepared, and ready to soar.

1. Double-check your campus schedule and arrival plan

Before the big day, confirm your campus start and end times. Review your drop-off and pick-up map so you know exactly where to go. Traffic can be heavier than usual on the first day, so plan to leave 15–20 minutes early.

2. Get uniforms ready the night before

Lay out your student’s uniform ahead of time — shirt, pants or skirt, belt, and the correct shoes. Make sure the items meet ILTexas uniform guidelines. Jackets and sweaters should also follow the dress code.

Label outerwear with your child’s name to help it find its way home if it’s misplaced.

We also recommend that families review the Parent/Student Handbook to stay informed about any important updates and policies. The most important thing is that we see your students on the first day of school. If you need assistance with uniforms, please contact your campus for support.

3. Pack the essentials

On the first day, your student should bring:

  • School supplies (see your campus list)

  • A water bottle

  • Lunch or lunch account funds

  • Any required forms or medication for the nurse

Write names on water bottles, lunch boxes, and supply kits to avoid mix-ups.

Now is a great time for families who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals to complete the Application for Free and Reduced-Priced Meal.

4. Review technology rules

Charge any school-issued device the night before. Check your campus policy for personal electronics — most follow district guidelines prohibiting cell phone and smartwatch use during the school day.

A new Texas law (House Bill 1481) now requires all public schools — including ILTexas — to prohibit students from using personal communication devices during the school day. If a device is seen or heard, it will be taken.

5. Stay connected with ILTexas updates

Ensure your contact information is up-to-date in Skyward to avoid missing important messages. Follow your campus and ILTexas district pages on social media for announcements, reminders, and photos.
