National School Counseling Week, celebrated February 2–6, highlights the vital role school counseling programs play in student success. At ILTexas, counselors are essential partners in our mission to prepare students for college, career, and leadership.
This year’s theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” comes to life every day across ILTexas campuses through the following work:
Academically:
ILTexas counselors support students through academic planning, schedule reviews, credit checks, and progress monitoring to ensure students remain on track for promotion and graduation. They collaborate closely with teachers and campus leadership through systems like MTSS to identify students who need additional academic support and connect them with timely interventions.
Social-Emotional Support:
Counselors provide consistent check-ins and guidance to help students navigate stress, transitions, and personal challenges. Whether supporting new students adjusting to campus life or helping scholars manage academic pressure, counselors serve as trusted adults who promote balance, resilience, and well-being.
College, Career, and Military Readiness:
From middle school through high school, ILTexas counselors play a key role in preparing students for life after graduation. They guide students through college applications, FAFSA/TASFA completion, scholarship opportunities, career exploration, and military pathways, working closely with the Academic Success Program (ASP) to support postsecondary planning and success.
Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across every campus and in every graduating class. ILTexas students are better prepared for the future because of the dedication, advocacy, and care our counselors provide.
