General Motors Gives Grants to Local Organizations

in its STEM Day Celebration

General Motors in Arlington will be presenting special grants to local organizations at its Arlington Assembly facility on May 20th. The guests include: International Leadership of Texas, Arlington ISD Foundation, Junior Achievement of the Chisholm Trail, Mansfield ISD Foundation, River Legacy Foundation, United Way of Tarrent County, and University Crossroads. The ceremony starts at 8 a.m. at GM’s Arlington Assembly at 2525 E Abrams Street, Arlington, Texas 76010. To RSVP to this event, please email Arlington@gm.com.

International Leadership of Texas (ILTexas) will be receiving the amount of $10,309.49 to be spent in the ILTexas Arlington K8 Library. The amount will go towards shelves, computers, scanners, books in three languages, and a web-based library catalog. ILTexas seeks to have students check out a minimum of 1 book per visit while every student will be visiting at least once per week.

100% of Elementary and Middle school classes will have the opportunity to visit the Library through a weekly schedule that will foster greater literacy on the campus as classes will sign up for weekly visits and Librarian will monitor all class visits. Through increased circulation and a library presence, Reading comprehension scores will increase on all Accelerated Reader assessments, Reading MAP testing, and STAAR testing by a minimum of 10% over the previous year.

International Leadership of Texas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charter school operating in and around Dallas and Houston. The mission of ILTexas is to prepare students for exceptional leadership roles in the international community by emphasizing servant leadership, mastering the English, Spanish, and Chinese languages, and strengthening the mind, body and character.
