CAITLIN MADISON
KATY, TX - Marcello Salazar, a dedicated cadet in the Marine Corps JROTC program at ILTexas Katy-Westpark High School, has been awarded a prestigious $180,000 Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship from the United States Marine Corps. This highly competitive scholarship will support his college education as he pursues a future in military leadership.
Salazar’s commitment to JROTC has been evident throughout his high school career. From competing in physical training (PT) and Raider events to being the first cadet promoted through the Promotion Board, he has consistently demonstrated leadership and excellence.
“While in ROTC, I’ve always been proactive in the organization,” Salazar said. “I love the program and seeing how far it’s come, and I have no doubt the younger cadets will carry it even further.”
Beyond JROTC, Salazar has been actively involved in school activities, including HOSA, boys’ volleyball, the cooking club, and school performances. With college options including Auburn, the University of Colorado Denver, Texas State, Texas A&M, and UNC Asheville, he looks forward to the opportunities ahead.
“I have faith in the future and what’s next to come,” he said.
Marcello and his family have deep roots in ILTexas. His mother, Nancy Salazar, a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, at ILTexas Katy K-8, played an integral role in getting ILTexas schools in the Houston area. He also has an older sister, Isabella, who graduated from ILTexas Katy-Westpark High School.
The ILTexas community congratulates Marcello Salazar and his family on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to seeing him excel in the next chapter of his journey.
