HOLLY NORRIS
Last week, 156 ILTexas MCJROTC cadets from seven high schools gathered at the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) for the annual Cadet Leadership Camp. This transformative experience aimed to challenge and inspire our cadets to grow as leaders of character.
The camp’s mission is to provide a fun, challenging, and rewarding environment for cadets to develop leadership skills, build character, and strengthen relationships with peers. Divided into four companies that mixed campuses, cadets quickly formed bonds that transcended school boundaries.
Throughout the week, cadets faced activities that tested their resilience and teamwork: a Leadership Reaction Course, high and low ropes, a 30-foot rappelling tower, and an obstacle course. Field trips to Carlsbad Caverns and Holloman Air Force Base enriched the experience, offering insights into nature and potential military careers.
A highlight was the air rifle marksmanship camp, where 22 cadets trained with NCAA standout Mindy Miles, honing discipline and focus. Cadets also competed for the Honor Platoon title, fostering teamwork and healthy competition.
The week’s success was evident in the camaraderie, determination, and growth shown by each cadet. We are incredibly proud of their resilience and character. Special thanks go to the dedicated MCJROTC instructors whose guidance makes this experience possible.
These cadets return to their schools ready to lead, bringing lessons of courage, unity, and excellence to their communities. We look forward to seeing them put these skills into action!
