This week, ILTexas MCJROTC cadets showed the true meaning of others before self by turning trash into tangible acts of compassion. In a hands-on service project, our cadets transformed hundreds of discarded plastic bags into sturdy, weather-resistant sleeping mats for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Each step, collecting, cleaning, cutting, and weaving the bags, was done entirely by hand. This labor-intensive process kept plastic waste out of landfills and created something meaningful and functional for those in need.

Once completed, the sleeping mats will be donated to D Squared Homes for the Homeless, a local nonprofit supporting unhoused individuals and families in our community. This project blends environmental responsibility, youth leadership, and community service, highlighting the character and creativity of our student cadets.

From teamwork to environmental impact, ILTexas cadets continue to lead with purpose and make a real difference.
