PEARLAND, Texas– ILTexas celebrated the groundbreaking of its 23rd campus, Pearland K-8, on Thursday November 10. Staff, teachers, families of incoming students, and Texas state and local representatives gathered at the construction site to witness the event which featured a mariachi band performance followed by a ceremonial dragon dance.
Members of the ILTexas Windmill Lakes-Orem High School JROTC were in attendance to represent the charter’s unique JROTC affiliation.
The ceremony featured remarks from Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole, Texas State Representative Mayes Middleton, and Texas State Senator Larry Taylor, including a welcome speech from ILTexas Founder and Superintendent Eddie Conger.
“There are things that ILTexas offers that some parents and children's students will want to have,” said Senator Taylor to the crowd. “Having this campus [in Pearland] is going to be a great thing not just for the near future, but for the distant future.”
Ebony James, who will serve as principal of ILTexas Pearland K-8, expressed her excitement for the new opportunities the charter would bring to students in the community.
“I'm honored to be part of this monumental event as we prepare students for exceptional leadership roles in the international community,” she said, reiterating the ILTexas mission. “Years from now, we will all reflect on the future doctors, lawyers, and international leaders who have walked these halls, and know that each of us played a role in building our ILTexas Pearland K-8 community.”
