International Leadership of Texas (ILTexas) has been prominently featured by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) — showcasing our leadership in critical language education and commitment to global readiness.

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) supports world-class language programs that prepare students for a globally connected future. Mandarin Chinese is one of the world languages designated as a critical national security language — and ILTexas stands out for its exceptional work. DoDEA

Recently, Jennifer Dailey-Perkins, Grant Program Manager for DoDEA’s Partnership & Resources Division, visited ILTexas campuses to witness firsthand the impact of DoDEA-funded programs.

  • ILTexas Keller K-8

  • ILTexas Keller-Saginaw High School 

During her tour, student ambassadors led campus visits and shared personal stories about how DoDEA funding has enriched their Chinese language learning.

Students highlighted:

  • Life-changing immersion programs

  • Access to Chinese culture and language camps

  • Transformative study abroad experiences, including travel to Taiwan and summer immersion programs

  • Prestigious program participation (STARTALK, NSLI-Y) 

ILTexas has secured multiple five-year DoDEA grants totaling six million to support Mandarin Chinese education through the Chinese Advanced Language (CAL) project, expanding:

  • Professional development for Chinese teachers

  • Immersion summer camps

  • Expanded K-5 Chinese language education

These grants are specially designed to help ALL students — with a focus on military-connected and JROTC learners — master Mandarin as part of their academic growth. 

Being featured by DoDEA reflects ILTexas’s leadership in preparing students for success in a global environment — especially in languages deemed critical for international diplomacy, security, and cross-cultural leadership.

It underscores how strategic partnerships and innovative programs expand opportunities for students well beyond the classroom.

ILTexas continues to deepen its world-language programming and global focus — with ongoing DoDEA partnerships and a shared mission of preparing the next generation of multilingual leaders.
