KATY, TX–The ILTexas Katy Westpark High School (KWHS) boys and girls track teams took home 1st place wins at the Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League (TCSAAL) State Track and Field championship on Saturday, April 30. The competition took place at Stony Point High School in Round Rock, TX where middle and high school athletes from top public charter athletic programs in the Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston areas competed in a total of 62 events.

The ILTexas KWHS boys and girls track teams competed in nine events including the 100, 200, and 800 meter races as well as the 1-mile, discus and long jump events. 

The ILTexas KWHS girls track team finished first during the 4x200 meter relay race with a time of 1:52.51. The team consisted of Angie Oluwi, Sainabou Sanneh, Victoria Owusu, and Stacy Owusu.

The team placed first again in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:28.97 with team members Blessing Esu, Cecilia Davis, Jasmine Torres, and Joyce Adewale. 

“I am most proud of my girls team for getting better after each meet they competed in,” said Alisha Collins, the Division Athletic Coordinator and a founding Coach at KWHS. “If they were not satisfied with their times in the meet before, they worked hard and pushed themselves at practice to drop times for the next meet.”

The KWHS boys track and field  team also placed first in the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays with a time of 1:32.34 and 3:36.21 respectively.

The team consisted of  Sam Ewanish, Sinaj William, Harrison Oriakhi, and  Seinyi-Abasi Odungide for the 4x200, and later with Jayden Worley, Demond Foster, Great Dair, and Harrison Oriakhi for the 4x400 meter relay race.

Founded in 2007, TCSAAL is an extracurricular sports league specifically for Texas public charter schools. The organization offers competitive events in academics, athletics, and the arts.
