DALLAS, Texas - In honor of Women’s History Month, 216 girls from ILTexas Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area schools were invited to attend the third annual ‘Celebration of Girls’ event hosted by Girls Empowered by Mavericks (GEM) on Monday, March 6. 

The event is the second time ILTexas students from DFW area campuses have attended. Students got the opportunity to attend workshops focused on networking, financial literacy, and mental and physical health. The event also included panel discussions featuring student athletes from Dallas area schools including ILTexas, as well as speakers from the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Wings. Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall and Dallas Mavericks Assistant Coach Kristi Toliver also spoke at the event. 

According to GEM’s website, the Celebration of Girls event is “GEM’s biggest event of the year,” with the goal of “educating, engaging, inspiring and connecting female student-athletes” from across the Dallas metroplex.
