The event was the second ILTexas/Osgood Center for International Studies Lone Star Model UN (LSMUN) Conference this year. The Osgood Center, based in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit organization that advances understanding of public affairs and international issues.

MUN is an experiential learning program in which students act as delegates representing different countries, and form committees to role-play in scenarios to discuss issues among the international landscape. Students practice skills such as public speaking, writing, negotiation/debate, and conflict resolution. MUN gives participants the opportunity to tap into the diplomacy toolkit that's used to realistically solve the world's problems.

MUN is a consistent aspect of the ILTexas curriculum, as it's always been a required club on campus. Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, MUN became an official ILTexas course at the high school level and remains part of students' enrichment at the middle school level.

MUN aligns directly with the ILTexas mission: to prepare students for exceptional leadership roles in the international community. Participation in the LSMUN conferences further exposes students to diplomacy, foreign affairs and international relations.
