CHAN'CELLORE MAKANJUOLA

RICHARDSON, TX–Students from seven ILTexas kindergarten-8th grade schools in the Dallas and Houston areas competed in a charter-wide Spanish spelling bee competition on Thursday, March 3, with nine receiving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places within their grade. Students who received first place in their competitions are eligible to advance to the National Spanish Spelling Bee competition that takes place July 28-31 in El Paso, TX.  Out of the nine students who won certificates for their top placements, two were non-fluent Spanish speakers learning Spanish at ILTexas. 

List of students who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd during the spelling bee competition: 

3rd Grade 

  • 1st Place: Radhika Kedia, Keller  **

  • 2nd Place: Juliana Garcia Perdomo, College Station  

  • 3rd Place: Julissa Gónzalez, EFW 

4th-5th Grade 

  • 1st Place: Daniel Dare, 5th Grade, Lancaster **  (5th grade)

  • 2nd Place: Hansel Candelario, WML   (4th grade)

  • 3rd Place: Regina Blanco, 5th Grade, Katy  (5th grade)

6th-8th Grade  

  • 1st Place: Hailey Mendez, Katy  (7th grade) *

  • 2nd Place: Daniel Román Capraro, 6th grade, Garland  (6th grade)

  • 3rd Place: Mico Hastings, 6th Grade, Keller (6th grade)

*Will advance to the National Spanish Spelling Bee competition
