International Leadership of Texas Reinvents Education for 19,500 Students in One Week

RICHARDSON, T.X. – MARCH 31, 2020 – Amid great uncertainty for many families during the COVID-19 outbreak, International Leadership of Texas, a free, public charter school serving students in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas, reinvented education to help bring a sense of normalcy back to its student’s lives.

Following the closure of Texas schools, many districts prepared old-fashioned paper packets for parents to “homeschool” their children with. ILTexas refused to accept that option and their teachers went to work to transition all courses and services over to an online platform. Within just one week, students logged-in to their virtual classrooms where they were back with their teachers and peers, and back to their normal schedules. Students will finish out the school year just as they would have if students were still on campus, resuming all courses, including an exclusive trilingual curriculum, fitness, extracurriculars, AP, and fine arts.

ILTexas purchased $1.2 million in technology to ensure that every student could have a free Chromebook and equal access to virtual classrooms. Additionally, by transitioning all classes over to virtual classrooms that still include the teachers leading instruction, ILTexas has taken the stress off parents who need to work or are otherwise unable to provide educational support for their students.

ILTexas is proud to not only lead the way in in virtual learning but is also thrilled to provide students with access to virtual counseling services, nurse visits and is continuing supports for Special Education and Gifted and Talented students.

Additionally, ILTexas serves many low-socioeconomic communities that have been hit hard by the recent closure of businesses. Knowing that we have students that rely on ILTexas for their daily meals, we began serving free meals to all children, 18 and under, whether they attend our school or not. From 3/17/2020 to today, ILTexas has served nearly 100,000 meals to children in need.

The mission of ILTexas is to prepare students for exceptional leadership roles in the international community by emphasizing servant leadership, mastering the English, Spanish and Chinese languages and strengthening the mind, body, and character. Social distancing will not change this mission. It simply allows us the opportunity to educate students creatively and innovatively.
