RICHARDSON, Texas – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and ILTexas schools are showing their support by wearing pink. The charter hosted a fundraiser encouraging teachers and staff to donate one dollar allowing them to wear pink in support of breast cancer research. All proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness foundation.

Yolanda Frye, who is a nurse at ILTexas Garland K-8, says breast cancer awareness provides students an opportunity to learn the history of the disease and the importance of early detection.

“Whether it’s a woman, and also can be a man that has breast cancer, it’s just educating the students on the importance of self-breast exams,” she said. “Early detection saves lives.”

ILTexas will be hosting more breast cancer awareness events throughout October. Be sure to check your child’s school newsletter for more information.
