It was a "gem" of an event!

International Leadership of Texas brought more than 200 students to the 2024 Girls Empowered by Mavericks (GEM) Celebration, held on March 4 at the American Airlines Center sponsored by UTSouthwestern Medical Center. 

GEM's annual Celebration of Girls event is meant to educate, inspire and connect female student-athletes from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. 

The event consisted of panels, vendor booths, expos, giveaways, and much more! ILTexas students had the opportunity to listen to, and engage with, strong female leaders across several different industries. Featured guests and participants included Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall; UTSouthwestern Professor & Chief Institutional Opportunity Officer Dr. Shawna Nesbitt; Dallas Mavericks Senior Manager of Entertainment Ivy Winfrey; and Dallas Wings Forward Maddy Siegrist, to name a few. 

ILTexas students called the GEM event "an amazing opportunity," and discussed a variety of topics including the importance of authenticity in companies, on teams, and as individuals. 

ILTexas female students who are currently in good academic standing were selected by their school principal to attend the event and represent their campus.
