Honoring Heroes Through Service and Strength

The early morning air was filled with energy as MCJROTC cadets from Arlington Grand Prairie and Garland high schools laced up for the Travis Manion Foundation 9/11 Heroes Run on Sunday, September 7. The annual event is more than a race. It is a moment to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and to honor the spirit of service that followed.

Cadets joined hundreds of runners on the 5k course, running both as individuals and in teams. Each step was a reminder of the sacrifices made and the responsibility to carry those lessons forward. For the second year in a row, the Garland High School MCJROTC team finished strong and brought home the first place team trophy.

The 9/11 Heroes Run takes place each year in communities across the country. At every location, the Travis Manion Foundation shares the guiding words “If not me, then who,” encouraging participants to lead with character and put service above self.

For our cadets, the race was more than competition. It was a way to honor the past while showing what it means to serve today.
