On February 5 and 6, 44 ILTexas students from four southern high schools represented our district at Houston Area Model United Nations 51. The conference was held at the University of Houston and brought together more than 1,500 students from across Texas and neighboring states. It was an exciting and competitive environment filled with debate, collaboration, and leadership in action.
Our scholars stepped up in a big way. Two students earned individual recognition for their outstanding performance. Isaiah Kornegay was named Best Delegate in the International Maritime Organization committee, and Nolan Taarea received Outstanding Delegate in the INTERPOL committee. These honors reflect the preparation, confidence, and global awareness our students bring to every stage.
The conference also featured a keynote address from Scott Cummings, Dr.P.H., a professor at Texas A and M University in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications. He spoke about the importance of servant leadership and challenged students to lead with integrity and purpose.
We are incredibly proud of all 44 students who represented ILTexas. Events like HAMUN give our scholars the opportunity to sharpen their critical thinking skills, engage in meaningful dialogue, and live out our mission of developing leaders who serve others.
