CHAN'CELLORE MAKANJUOLA

FORT WORTH, TX– The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus from Yale University visited ILTexas Keller Saginaw High School (KSHS) on Thursday, March 24, where they put on a special a cappella performance for the assembly. The group’s visit to ILTexas was particularly special as it featured one of the charter’s very own students, Kiscada Hastings, who graduated from Keller-Saginaw in 2019. Hastings, who joined the group his freshman year, opened the event with an a cappella cover of pop singer Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song “Good 4 U” and sang a medley of songs along with his fellow members.

Formed in 1938, the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus are the 2nd longest running a cappella group in the United States. The fifteen-member group is currently on their tour of the South which includes stops at the ILTexas Arlington-Grand Prairie and ILTexas Garland High School locations on March 25.

After their performance, the a cappella members took questions from the audience  where they shared about life in college, their majors, and how they joined the group. and its history. They later visited the ILTexas KSHS choir and met some of the guitar students.

Hastings, who is currently majoring in economics, referenced how his ILTexas education has been beneficial to his journey at Yale, particularly with being able to communicate in Chinese.

“I started a company this semester with some friends and we ended up getting a lot of opportunities to pitch our company to Chinese venture capitalists because all of us just happened to speak Chinese,” he told the audience. “I think just random stuff happened like that where I'm like ‘wow, I  speak Chinese’ and it's very cool and helpful.”
